At the start of 2014, H. Porter & Sons’ owner and manager, Lucy Porter, launched The John Porter Community Fund.  The fund has been launched in memory of John Porter, the owner of H. Porter & Sons who passed away in 2008.  John was involved in local and national charities, often through his role at Stourbridge Rotary Club.

Every March, June, September and December an award is made to a deserving local cause. This could be a local registered charity; a local community, youth, sports or children’s group; schools or individuals, for example. This is a fund to support our local community, and with that in mind we will only consider applications from organisations based, or individuals living, within four miles of our business in South Road, Stourbridge.

Previous recipients of the John Porter Memorial Fund include an individual cyclist and gymnast, both of whom went on the represent their country in their chosen fields, local scout and guide groups, churches, parkrun, Side by Side Theatre Company, Black Country Food bank, Wollaston Lions FC, Age Concern, Crystal Bowls Club, Tidy Stourbridge, Sunfield, The Samaritans and many more. During Covid 19, we supported five local churches with a £150 donation to each, to help them through a time of decreased income. We have also supported Dudley Mind to train Mental Health peer supporters at Redhill School, Stourbridge. It is a pleasure and a privilege for us to be able to support all of these groups and individuals.

The decision of the business regarding this is final. Applications to the fund are to be made by writing to Lucy Porter, H. Porter & Sons, 60 South Road, Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY8 3UJ or by emailing lucyporter@hporter.co.uk. When applying, please be sure to include details of who any cheques should be payable to or include bank details.
