An environmental charity, a sports group and local scouts are the latest organisations to receive support from the John Porter Community Fund

The Wild Earth Movement, which inspires community engagement and involvement in local sustainability activities such as litterpicks, plastic free events and swap shops, has been granted £300.

The award will go towards the general running of the organisation, covering things like event insurance, refreshments and travel costs – helping it to do more good in neighbourhoods across Stourbridge.

The two other groups to receive support in the Fund’s second round of awards in 2022 are the Wollescote Hall Bowls Club and Black Country Baden Powell Scouts.

Each received £100 and this money will help fund roof repairs at the bowling club and a uniform bank for the Scouts, enabling youngsters from families with limited financial means to join.

Lucy Porter, owner and Director at H. Porter & Sons, was pleased to be able to support a diverse range of community groups.

“In recent years, interest in the John Porter Community Fund has really grown and we’re receiving a good mixture of applications on a regular basis. We’re delighted that this particular round of awards will help local people across different generations, in addition to helping those yet to come.

“If you run a community group in the Stourbridge area, we’d love to hear from you. The application process is really simple and the money could be used for all sorts of initiatives such as staging an event, reaching new audiences, or buying new equipment,” she said.

Launched in memory of John Porter in 2014, The John Porter Community Fund makes awards to different community groups every March, June, September and December.

To be eligible a group must be a local registered charity, a local community, youth, sports or children’s group, or a school or individual based or living within four miles of our business in South Road, Stourbridge.
